Reasons to not buy Renault Kiger

Renault has been trying to survive in this cut-throat Indian market. It had a difficult last few years, but the launch of Kiger has helped them to bring in some sales. The Kiger sell decently but it is nowhere near the sale of segment leaders like Hyundai Venue and Maruti Brezza. In today’s article, we will be looking at reasons to not buy the Renault Kiger.

New-generation Renault Duster – 5 things we know

NVH Levels

Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels is an important aspect for people looking a refined experience from their car. Engine refinement is one of the most major aspects to control NVH levels in the cabin. The Kiger engine is smooth in low revs, but as you pick up the revs you notice a lot of vibration and noise. These NVH levers are really bad in the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated engine with the manual or automatic transmission. Renault should look to address this as it is important for the overall car driving experience.

No diesel

The BS6 norms really hampered the diesel market in India. But now, a lot of manufacturers have started to adapt to it. In this segment, people are looking for diesel engines due to their better average and more torque. So it comes as a surprise that Renault/Nissan hasn’t invested in a BS6 compliant diesel engine.

Why Nissan Magnite outsells Renault Kiger?

Interior quality

Kiger interiors

The interiors on the Kiger don’t feel that premium. Renault has used a lot of hard and single color plastics at prominent spots that make the cabin look cheap. The infotainment screen looks fine but out of place like an aftermarket accessory. Considering what other competition cars offer, Renault should really up their game.

Styling

Renault Kiger base variant

The Kiger is a sub-compact SUV, but its styling feels more like a crossover than an SUV. Its sister car Nissan Magnite has a more SUVish look. Also, its close resemblance to Kwid which could be turn-off for some. Renault should look to give it a more SUV look.

Ride quality

The Kiger comes with a stiff suspension setup which can get really bumpy on bad roads. Actually, almost all cars in this segment come with stiff suspensions to compensate for the high ground clearance. But still, the Kiger feels the worst when compared to others. Especially when the car’s tyre hits pot holes, the loud thud and jarring sound is not a pleasant feeling.

Overall, the Kiger is a good car for someone looking at value for money and it has decent safety too. But some of the above mentioned attributes make the package weak as a overall offering.
