The cars that we see now are feature-loaded and come with the latest technology. Cars that were seen in science fiction movies back a decade ago are now present in real life. In this article, we will discuss five such technologies that you should know and could be seen in a car in near future.
With cars like Mahindra XUV700 getting ADAS level 1 and MG Astor getting ADAS Level 2. It is not too farfetched to expect cars that will be autonomous. ADAS Level 4, at this level the vehicle’s autonomous driving system is completely capable of monitoring and performing driving functions for the vehicle’s usual route. In case of any sudden change, the vehicle may inform the driver and secure the vehicle automatically, thus avoiding accidents and fatalities.
There is a slight difference between Autonomous Cars and driverless cars. Driverless cars are cars that will have no human intervention while driving. Autonomous driving is at ADAS level 4 and Driverless cars are at ADAS level 5. Driverless cars might lack a steering wheel as well as gas and brake pedals. The car will use voice commands to select a location and also to control music and temperature inside such cars.
Inter car communication or V2V communication is a technology in cars that allows vehicles to communicate with one another, road, and objects around these vehicles. This technology will help reduce traffic and accidents on roads. In case of an accident scenario the V2V technology, the car will get a signal from other vehicles that are in your way and may cause an accident. The car will send a warning message by flashing either a potential collision sign or by applying brakes.
Just like you get advertisements on your TV sets or mobile phones, similarly, the infotainment system of your car will be used to display advertisements. Recently Ford Motor Company had filed a patent for an advertisement reading technology. This technology will enable its cars to read the advertisement hoardings on your route and display the advertisement on the car’s infotainment unit. This system is designed in such a way that the advertisement will be displayed as a notification and not the entire ad, as that can be distracting while driving.
A step ahead in the solar technology in cars, energy-storing body panels store energy in form of heat from sunlight and serve as the power source for the vehicle. These body panels are designed in such a way that they will be able to store energy faster than conventional batteries. They are made of carbon resin and polymer fiber, this will effectively reduce the weight by 15 percent. Toyota is currently working on such lightweight energy-storing panels.
