An insight into the absence of midfielder Jesse Lingard from Manchester United’s matchday squad to face Chelsea has been provided on Thursday evening.
The Red Devils, of course, are primed to return to action in short order.
Fresh off a 3-1 downing at the hands of Arsenal putting the final nail in the club’s hopes of clinching Champions League football for next season, Ralf Rangnick’s troops are set to play host to Chelsea at Old Trafford.
In turn, as is customary, prior to kick-off in Manchester, the club’s latest matchday panel of stars was unveiled a short time ago.
A whole host of key performers, as expected, were nowhere to be seen, with the likes of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jadon Sancho and Fred all confined to the sidelines at present.
One surprising absentee, as alluded to above, though, came in the form of Jesse Lingard:

An explanation has since been forthcoming for the England international missing out on Thursday, however.
As per a number of reliable sources, Lingard’s omission comes owing to unspecified ‘personal reasons’, rather than any form of fresh injury concern:
