Harry Maguire has spoken out after he was booed by England fans on Tuesday evening.
England would beat Ivory Coast 3-0 in a friendly on Tuesday, with Harry Maguire starting the game.
Maguire had been in awful form for Manchester United this season, but he continues to be excellent for his country. So, the boos he received from the England faithful ahead of the game made little sense.
Gareth Southgate hit out at the fans who booed Maguire after Tuesday’s clash:
“I thought the reception was a joke, an absolute joke”, Southgate said. “The way he has performed for us has been absolutely phenomenal. I don’t get it. We’re either all in this together or we’re not.
“He’s in an England shirt and not only should you support a player in an England shirt regardless, but when you’ve played at the level he has for us and put the performances in he has, it should be total commitment behind him. I don’t get it at all.”
And now, Harry Maguire has spoken out for the first time since the match.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday morning, the Manchester United skipper wrote: “Enjoyable week playing for my country”, followed by an England flag and a love heart emoji.

Elsewhere, Declan Rice has shown his support to his England teammate after he was booed.
Rice also took to social media and had the following to say on the Maguire incident: “Total embarrassment from whoever boo’d tonight.
“Harry Maguire has been incredible every single time he’s put on the England shirt. Absolute nonsense now it’s becoming. Back your own players. Especially with a Major tournament coming up.”
