Manchester United’s supporters have taken to social media in numbers on Sunday evening, to provide their reactions to Liverpool’s go-ahead goal during the club’s showdown with Chelsea being ruled out by VAR.
The Reds and Blues, of course, are currently locked in action at Wembley, in the finale of the Carabao Cup.
The matchup has proven a thoroughly entertaining one thus far, featuring crunching tackles, an electric pace, and chances galore at both ends of the pitch.
Nevertheless, though, as things stand, the scoreline remains goalless.
Liverpool, for their part, did appear to have finally found a breakthrough midway through the 2nd-half of action, when Sadio Mane’s header across the face of goal was nodded home at the back post by Joel Matip.
Amid chaotic celebrations on the part of the Reds’ stars and fans alike, however, word began to emerge that the goal was being looked over by those in the VAR booth.
This came as Virgil van Dijk, despite not playing a direct hand in the goal, was spotted in a potential offside position as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s set-piece was floated into the Chelsea area.
Harsh to rule it out or was it a fair call? 👀 pic.twitter.com/1Mwh8L7d4e

In turn, on the back of a lengthy check, it was decided that van Dijk had indeed interfered with play whilst stood offside, with Liverpool’s opener, as a result, ruled out:
Joël Matip is *almost* Liverpool’s unlikely hero 👀

On the back of the call to chalk what could have proven a decisive finish on Matip’s part out at Wembley being made official, Liverpool’s fans were not shy in making their feelings clear.
This came amid cries that van Dijk’s contribution did not prove telling enough to have been considered as directly interfering with play.
One rival fanbase, though, who took considerably more joy in the Reds’ opener on Sunday being ruled out came in the form of the Manchester United faithful.
This comes as supporters of Ralf Rangnick’s troops pointed towards a similar incident in one of their own recent outings, which saw a finish on the part of Raphael Varane waved away versus Burnley, owing to Harry Maguire being identified as in an offside position by VAR:
Similar to the Varane/Maguire “goal” at Burnley there.

Definitely offside. Same as the Maguire incident against Burnley 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ #CHELIV #CarabaoCupFinal
