Manager of Arsenal target all but confirms summer Emirates switch

 

New England Revolution manager Bruce Arena has all but confirmed that star goalkeeper Matt Turner is set to make the move to Premier League giants Arsenal this summer.

Surprise links between the Gunners and shot-stopper Turner first came to the fore in the press this day last week.

Some outlets even went as far as to suggest that the transfer team at the Emirates had tabled a ‘strong bid’ for the reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year:

And, if the latest comments on the part of Turner’s boss on Thursday are anything to go by, then it appears that such claims were not without foundation.

This comes Bruce Arena, sporting director and head coach at New England Revolution, having admitted that the chances of his no.1 linking up with Arsenal are ‘pretty strong’.

Though not specified below, it is understood that the statement came with an emphasis on a summer switch, rather than one this month.

Leno on his way

Turner ultimately going on to make the move to north London would of course likely spell the end of the Arsenal career of another member of Mikel Arteta’s ranks.

The player in question? Bernd Leno.

German international Leno has endured a difficult campaign to date, stringing together just seven appearances across all competitions after being bumped down to backup duties owing to the summer arrival of Aaron Ramsdale.

The possibility of the 29-year-old moving on this month therefore cannot be ruled out, amid rumoured interest on the part of newly-minted Newcastle United.

Turner’s arrival being pushed back until the summer, however, means that Leno will likely be forced to grit his teeth on the Arsenal bench for the remainder of the campaign.
