Liverpool star Mohamed Salah unsurprisingly proved the star of the show this evening, as Egypt booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.
After both Cameroon and Burkina Faso marched on to the final-4 of what has been a wonderful tournament to date on Saturday, two of north Africa’s heavyweights did battle in a bid to keep their own hopes of glory alive a short time ago.
The aforementioned Egypt faced off with in-form Morocco, with the former, in the end, having emerged triumphant.
It was Morocco who opened the scoring on the day, when Sofiane Boufal stepped up to slot home from the penalty spot after Achraf Hakimi was needlessly felled in the area:

Egypt, though, soon gathered themselves, en route to levelling things up early in the 2nd-half when talisman Mohamed Salah slotted home from close range:

And it was Salah who again made the difference upon proceedings in Yaounde rolling into extra-time.
With 100 minutes on the clock, and the scoreline locked at a goal apiece, the Liverpool standout embarked on a trademark winding run down the right, before squaring an inch-perfect ball across the face of goal for Aston Villa star Trezeguet to slot into an empty net:

Egypt’s victory over Morocco means that Salah, Mohamed Elneny and co. will now be tasked with getting the better of AFCON hosts Cameroon.
Toni’s men made short work of Gambia on Saturday courtesy of a double on the part of Karl Toko Ekambi, setting up a mouthwatering semi-final showdown with the Pharaohs this coming Thursday.
Elsewhere, tournament surprise package Burkina Faso await the result of the final quarter-final clash between Senegal and Equatorial Guinea to discover their own opponents in the final-4, after continuing to upset the odds in a 1-0 downing of Tunisia 24 hours ago.
