Newcastle United are set to make the club’s 3rd signing of the January transfer window official at any moment, it has been confirmed.
The latest player in line to link up with Eddie Howe’s squad? Bruno Guimaraes.
As confirmed by a host of reliable sources on Saturday evening, the Magpies’ efforts to push a deal for Olympique Lyonnais standout Guimaraes over the line today finally bore fruit.
This comes after the midfielder – currently away on international duty with Brazil – completed his medical examinations in Belo Horizonte.
The fee agreed upon between Newcastle and Lyon is understood to come in at around 40 million euros, plus a potential further 8 million in bonuses.
Guimaraes, for his part, has already put pen to paper on a contract with world football’s richest club through the summer of 2026, ahead of the 24-year-old’s official unveiling over the days ahead:
Add ons for Bruno Guimarães deal will be €8m and not €2m, of course – contract 2026 confirmed. Official announcement in place, once all paperworks will be signed also between clubs tonight. 🤝🇧🇷 #NUFC

Guimaraes’ arrival will of course mark the 3rd addition to Eddie Howe’s Magpies ranks across the winter window to date.
This comes with both Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood having also made their way to Tyneside, to add some much-needed Premier League-proven quality to the club’s ranks.
Those in a position of power at St. James’ Park, however, appear far from ready to rest on their laurels ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.
Newcastle are also understood to be pushing hard for fresh blood at centre-half, with a swoop for soon-to-be out-of-contract Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah on the agenda, too.
