Premier League outfit Crystal Palace are growing increasingly confident of sealing not one, but two additions to the club’s squad, ahead of Monday’s fast-approaching transfer deadline.
The first set to make the move to Selhurst Park? Or rather, extend his stay, comes in the form of Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Hitman Mateta has of course spent the last 12 months on loan with the Eagles, on the back of an impressive spell in the Bundesliga with Mainz.
Previous reports late last year had assured that the 24-year-old did not feature at all in Patrick Vieira’s long-term vision at Palace, with the club, in turn, tipped to opt against activating their option to make his signing a permanent one.
As confirmed by the reliable Jack Rosser of the Evening Standard, though, on the back of an upturn in playing time and form alike, the hitman is in fact now set to stay put.
A fee of around £8 million has been agreed upon with Mainz, with Mateta’s stint in south London, in turn, set to be made permanent any day now.
Palace’s late-window business, however, looks unlikely to come to an end with simply Mateta’s arrival.
This comes with those in a position of power at Selhurst Park also growing increasingly confident of striking a deal with their Manchester United counterparts, over the signing of Donny van de Beek.
Dutchman van de Beek has of course long been tipped for an Old Trafford exit, on the back of another underwhelming opening to the campaign.
And Palace, as things stand, look the gifted midfielder’s most likely landing spot, albeit with the Eagles not expected to secure an option to buy as part of any loan agreement.
Crystal Palace are closing in on a deal to sign Mainz loanee Jean-Philippe Mateta on a permanent transfer.
The Eagles are also growing increasingly confident over a loan agreement for Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek.
