Seeing this potential, Toyota might also bring a lifestyle SUV. Toyota’s sister brand Daihatsu is working on a compact lifestyle SUV. The Rugger is still in its early stage of development. It will be based on the Daihatsu New Generation Architecture platform (DNGA). Daihatsu is popular for making such compact cars in Japan. The Rugger will get an upright design and tall pillars with flared wheel arches. It will most likely get a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine capable of producing 98bhp and 140Nm of torque. This engine will come mated to a manual and CVT gearbox. It will get a four-wheel-drive system with electronic control technology giving it great off-road capabilities.

Currently, the Rugger is still in its early stages of development in Japan. So the Rugger coming to India is quite a far-fetched idea. But seeing the growth of the lifestyle SUV segment in India. Also, Maruti is bringing Jimny to India, so we can also expect Toyota to bring the Rugger with the Toyota badge in India. This will provide more competition in this segment, keeping the pricing competitive.
