Manchester United and Burnley faced off in the final midweek Premier League action of gameweek 20 on Thursday evening.
The Red Devils headed into the game looking to bounce back from a pretty inept showing vs Newcastle United which saw the Manchester outfit forced to settle for a 1-1 draw.
And, though Burnley are having a similarly dismal 2021/22 to Newcastle, United fans were likely concerned their side would once again struggle against some of the Premier League’s basement dwellers.
That, though, would be far from the case, as Manchester United had the tie all but won after 35 minutes, with strikes from Scott McTominay, Cristiano Ronaldo and a Ben Mee own goal ensuring Manchester United eventually came away with a 3-1 win.

Following the game, Ralf Rangnick has moved to praise the work of both Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo vs Burnley.
Marcus Rashford has, until Thursday, been starting all of United’s league ties under Rangnick alongside CR7.
However, after several poor showings, Rashford was replaced by Cavani who, much like Ronaldo on the day, worked very hard both offensively and defensively, which, in turn, earned the pair praise from their new coach:
“It is important to have those two players on board. The work ethic both showed today together with Mason and Jadon was highly important.
“They had to do a lot of negative runs for the team to make sure we kept them away as often as possible from our own box and this had to start with the four up front.
“When you play with such an offset in the line-up, it is important they work together offensively and have a work ethic defensively and both of them did a lot for the team.”
