After months of speculation, Barcelona finally made their first January transfer move as Ferran Torres joined the club from Manchester City.
The deal set back the Blaugrana a hefty 55 million euros, with the potential of the deal to rise to 65 million euros with add-ons, more than doubling what Pep Guardiola paid for him just 18 months ago.

The Spaniard has agreed a deal until 2027 with the club, and joins fellow young talents Gavi and Pedri in having his release clause set at a whopping 1 billion euros. He cannot yet be registered however, until the Blaugrana shed some of the excess fat from their current squad.
They could need to continue shaving to fit in all their transfer business though.
And now, as per Spanish outlet Marca, it is another Spaniard that Xavi and co. are targeting, in the form of 29-year-old forward Alvaro Morata.

Morata is currently on loan at Juventus, where he has scored 5 times in 18 Serie A appearances, but is still technically on the books of Atletico Madrid, who paid a princely sum of 47 million pounds (loan fee included) to snatch him away from Chelsea in 2019.
Therefore, any move for the Spaniard would not come cheap, and while Barcelona paid 55 million euros for Torres, 29 year old Morata would have little to no resale value, condemning Barcelona to repeating past mistakes that have seen them burdened with the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann and that, frankly, caused their financial issues.
Will they be sensible about their spending this time around?
