Manchester United already lining up 33 million pound January addition

Rangnick at the wheel

Manchester United yesterday announced that Ralph Rangnick was taking the Old Trafford hot seat, just over a week after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following a 4-1 embarrassment to Watford at Vicarage Road.

The German inherits a squad with no real identity, but packed full of egos and stars, which will make his tenure in charge a fascinating watch for United and non-United fans alike.

Before any changes can be made, however, he will have to deal with what on paper look like a relatively easy run of December fixtures, which include games against Arsenal and Crystal Palace, as well as trips to take on Norwich and Brentford.

However, between now and the end of the year, they play just two sides inside the top half of the current Premier League table, suggesting that they can recover some form in the coming weeks.

If rumours are to be believed, though, Rangnick has already made up his mind on his first January addition.

Haidara on the radar

As 101 reported yesterday, Rangnick is a massive fan of RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara, who he brought to the German club in 2018.

He told Raphael Honigstein in 2020:

“Amadou Haidara, Ibrahima Konate and Tyler Adams are all top level and will show that.”

And now, he could be primed to bring the Mali star to Old Trafford, to strengthen a midfield that has looked inadequate for years.

As per the Daily Mail, they are even going as far as to watch him play in the next two Leipzig games, against Union Berlin and Manchester City, both of which are coming in the next week.

Haidara is understood to have a 33 million pound release clause in his contract, meaning that any signing even in January would be straightforward, with Haidara reportedly keen to make the switch from Germany to England.

Would he fix Manchester United’s problems?
