Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips set to rebuff Manchester City interest and pen new deal at Elland Road

Kalvin Phillips a wanted man

As recently as two days ago (at time of writing), there was speculation that Manchester United had a strong interest in Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The England midfielder, nicknamed by some “the Yorkshire Pirlo”, has also allegedly been on the radar of Manchester City, but no official approach has been made for the man who plays a key role in Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Watford this weekend, Bielsa was coy on his key man’s future, saying:

“That’s a question for Kalvin to answer. But he has a conduct I’ve rarely seen in a player. He will be loved definitively in the place he belongs.”

Phillips set to stay

However, as per the reliable John Percy of Telegraph Sport, the 24 year old is set to pen a new deal with the Yorkshire outfit, rebuffing any other advances in the process.

After speaking to his agent, Percy revealed that he had been informed:

“I can only see a positive outcome. Kalvin’s desire is to stay at Leeds and there is a real willingness from all sides to make it happen.”

Leeds United fans will rejoice at this news, that will see an England regular confirm his commitment to the club as they look to improve on a dire start to their second season back in the top flight, that has seen them yet to win a game.

Hopefully for all parties, a deal is announced soon to put an end to the speculation.
