FPL bosses beware: Southgate hints at Alexander Arnold’s status for Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City

England squad announced

Gareth Southgate today announced his England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary, and a few surprises were thrown.

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori was included, but there was no place for new Arsenal signing Ben White, while teenage sensation Jude Bellingham was also conspicuously absent despite his brilliant start to the season with Borussia Dortmund.

Injuries ruled out Dominic Calvert Lewin, Harry Maguire, Patrick Bamford, showing just how much strength in depth Gareth Southgate has at his disposal ahead of the next World Cup in just over 12 months time.

Southgate drops hint on Alexander Arnold’s fitness

In revealing his England squad, however, Gareth Southgate has seemingly dropped a massive hint on the fitness status of Liverpool’s star full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Called up for the September internationals, there was no place for the right-back in this month’s England squad.

TAA missed Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Porto on Tuesday through injury, and Jurgen Klopp hinted that the severity of the knock was such that he wouldn’t join up with the national team.

This has since been confirmed however, and deals Liverpool a massive personnel blow ahead of their early title contender clash against current Premier League champions Manchester City.

Worse still, right-back is the one area of Klopp’s squad where a suitable understudy doesn’t exist, meaning James Milner may once again be asked to operate there.

While he may be suitable against some opposition, with Jack Grealish and Joao Cancelo likely playing down the Manchester City left, he could be in for a long afternoon.
