Wolves have ended talks with Lille over the signing of midfielder Renato Sanches after the two clubs failed to find an agreement on a loan deal #DeadlineDay ❌

The 24-year-old Portuguese international looked set for a surprise swap that would see him exchange northern France for the West Midlands and join the cadre of Portuguese talents at the Molineux, but talks have broken down with no sign of them resuming unless Lille changes their stance.
It was the perfect chance for new boss Bruno Lage to rekindle a former relationship with Sanches, who he worked with during his time at SL Benfica that saw the then youngster first bubble to the surface in Europe which resulted in his breakout performance at Euro 2016 that aided Portugal in securing their first-ever major trophy.
With what was first looking like an increased likelihood that Renato Sanches was on his way to Wolves, key midfielder Rúben Neves appeared to be gearing up for greener pastures before the conclusion of the transfer window.
Interest in Neves has been ever-present this summer, and with former boss, Nuno Espírito Santo rocking up to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the new headmaster at Spurs, it seemed as though the midfielder would at the very least entertain calls acquiring about his services.
Spurs and rivals Arsenal were both interested in the player, with links to Manchester United persisting this summer as well. But it seemed as though Tottenham had taken the lead in the race to secure his signature this summer, given Espírito Santo’s work with him at the Molineux combined with Spurs’ need for central reinforcements as they look to retool the squad with the help of new director of football Fabio Paratici.
Any deal for Neves could well be off with the breakdown in Sanches’ loan move, however, with Wolves unlikely to want to be one more key central asset down with little time to find a proper replacement unless things rapidly change on the Sanches front.
