Video: Arsenal-linked Nabil Fekir leaves Leeds star injured with nasty challenge in pre-season friendly

Footage of an altogether unnecessary challenge on the part of Real Betis star Nabil Fekir, during a meeting with Leeds United, has begun to turn heads online this evening.

Betis victorious

Marcelo Bielsa’s men are of course currently stepping up their preparations for the new campaign.

After thoroughly impressing in their debut season back in the Premier League, the Whites will no doubt be eager to kick on towards the dizzying heights of the top-6 in 2021/22.

In turn, Leeds’ stars have, over the last couple of weeks, been put through their paces, in a series of pre-season friendlies.

The latest, and most high-profile to date, came a short time ago, when the Yorkshire outfit played host to La Liga outfit Real Betis at the Loughborough University Stadium.

A thoroughly entertaining affair – featuring no fewer than five goals – subsequently played out, as the visitors emerged on the right side of a 3-2 scoreline.

Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klich were on target for Leeds, with Aitor, Borja Iglesias and Youssouf Sabaly Betis’ goalscorers on the day.

Fekir loses his cool

As outlined above, though, it was not the goalscoring exploits in Leicestershire which ultimately proved the main talking point following the full-time whistle on Saturday.

Instead, this came in the form of the aforementioned 2nd-half challenge on the part of Nabil Fekir.

After being shielded off the ball by Leeds’ Pascal Struijk, Betis’ midfield conductor – hotly tipped for a move to Arsenal this summer – lashed out, directing a nasty kick into the back of Struijk’s left leg.

The Whites star, in turn, was forced to limp out of the action, ahead of a nervy wait for an update on his wellbeing.

Fekir, for his part, managed to escape with only a booking.
