Manchester United are eyeing a move for Bayern Munich and Germany star Leon Goretzka, according to reports stemming from Germany
It has been clear for a while now that the Reds need reinforcements in midfield.
Nemanja Matic is now past his best, leaving United without a quality defensive midfielder.
This has led Solskjaer to start both Scott McTominay and Fred in a midfield pivot.
However, this selection creates a number of problems, forcing Paul Pogba to be played out of position
Even more concerning, though, is the fact that, even when Fred and McTominay start together, United’s midfield can still look shaky at times.
So, it is quite apparent that one of Man United’s top priorities at the moment should be signing a quality no.6-type player who can sit deep and allow the likes of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes advanced, attacking, central roles.
And to a certain extent, Man United have been linked with such a player in the German press recently.
As per Goal, citing German outlet Bild, Man United are eyeing a potential summer move for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka.
Goretzka is perhaps not as defensively inclined as a typical no.6, but he is much better in pretty much every aspect of his game when compared to both Scott McTominay and Fred.
In terms of a potential fee, one is not mentioned in the report from Goal.
However, Goretzka’s current contract at Bayern is due to expire next year, perhaps suggesting he could be available on the cheap this summer? But it is also added that Bayern are said to have already opened talks with him over an extension.
