Age 18. DOB: 25 November 2002.
Teams: Spain & Barcelona.
Position: Midfielder.
Barcelona’s best player this season, aside from Lionel Messi? Arguably that honour belongs to Pedri.
Just last season, this teenager was plying his trade in the Segunda División for Las Palmas but, a year later, is a beckon of hope for Barcelona’s future.
Since joining for just €5 million, Pedri has shone for Barça, making 52 appearances in all competition, scoring four times, and providing six assists.
Pedri has cemented himself as a regular feature at the Camp Nou. The Spaniard, along with players such as Ansu Fati, Riqui Puig and Ilaix Moriba, are helping to usher in a new era at Barcelona.
But despite being clearly set for a bright future, Pedri’s involvement at Euro 2020 remains unclear.
The Tegueste-born midfielder has made just three appearances for Spain’s first -team. Luis Enrique used Pedri in all three of March’s World Cup Qualifiers, starting two of them.
Pedri won his first major trophy with the club, starting the 4-0 Copa del Rey Final victory over Athletic Club in April.
Of course, Spain’s squad includes some ultra-talented midfielders; Sergio Busquets, Marcos Llorente, Thiago Alcântara and Fabián to name but a few.
Nevertheless, it would be a major surprise if Pedri isn’t a central figure in la Roja’s future plans; not bad for an 18-year-old from the Canary Islands.
