Kai Havertz’s transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea may be the 21st most expensive in football history but he’s shown, in flashes, what all the hype is about.
In his final season in the Bundesliga, Havertz scored 18 goals and provided nine assists before joining Chelsea for a club-record €77 million.
In his first campaign in England, he netted eight times, proving nine assists, in what was largely regarded as an underwhelming campaign.
Still, there is hope that, with less Covid-19 enforced restrictions on life, and having had time to settle, Havertz will show the English public what he can do in 2021/22.
He could of course do so before then at Euro 2020.
For the national team, he’s scored three times in just 12 caps, most recently netting against Iceland in March in World Cup Qualifying.
Die Mannschaft’s squad is full of promising young players and Havertz is likely to be one of the most prominent in the near future.
