Billy Gilmour

Age 19. DOB: 11 June 2001.

Teams: Scotland & Chelsea

Position: Defensive midfielder

Despite the fact he’s played very little senior football, there is serious excitement about this talented young Scott.

In Chelsea’s last two fixtures before the Covid-19 shutdown, Billy Gilmour won man of the match on both occasions in an FA Cup victory over Liverpool and then a 4-0 win over Everton on his full-Premier League debut.

Overall, he’s played just 22 times for Chelsea’s first team, missing a large chunk of this season with a knee injury.

Nevertheless, his talents have been on show for all to see, particularly in the Blues’ come from behind 2-1 victory at Manchester City in April where Gilmour played 90 minutes.

This helped him earn a place in Stevie Clarke’s Euro 2020 squad as one of three uncapped players.

Central midfield, alongside left-back, is the most competitive area of Scotland’s squad but Gilmour could become an international stalwart for the next decade and beyond.
