As the Zlatan Ibrahmović era comes towards an end, could Alexander Isak be the next great striker of the Sweden national team?
Isak has been in the spotlight since 2016 when, while still playing for home-town club AIK, he scored ten in 24 Allsvenskan appearances.
This helped him earn a move to Borussia Dortmund, where he didn’t play much but won the DFB-Pokal, before moving again, this time to Real Sociedad.
Since arriving in San Sebastián in 2019, Isak has established himself as one of La Liga’s leading marksmen.
His biggest moment, so far, came in February 2020 when he bagged a brace in a 4-3 Copa del Rey quarter-final victory over Real Madrid at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
14 months later, La Real won the Copa; the second major honour of Isak’s young career.
For his country, he’s scored a respectable six in 20 caps, most recently netting a World Cup Qualification victory in Kosovo in March.
Sweden under Janne Andersson are very hard to score against so, with Isak in attack, could be dark horses to make a deep run at Euro 2020.
