Tottenham look to have been dealt another blow in the managerial search on Friday morning.
After news of the European Super League engulfed the footballing world, Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham sacking went somewhat under the radar.
The Portuguese was relieved of his duties less than a week before Spurs were set to face Manchester City in the League Cup final.
His sacking means that Spurs now represent the first side with whom Mourinho has failed to win a single trophy.
Ryan Mason has since taken temporary charge of the Lilywhites until the end of the season.
In all likelihood, Spurs will appoint a more experienced figure ahead of next season, though, particularly after finding out that they will now have to earn European football, rather than simply paying their way into a ‘Super League’.
Thus far, a number of high-profile names have been linked with the job.
Julian Nagelsmann was said to have been of interest to the north London outfit, but he is now set to take over at Bayern Munich in the summer.
Elsewhere, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has too been tipped as a potential target, but he is believed to have said that he is not interested in the job.
Then, in more recent days, Ajax boss Erik ten Hag was said to be of interest to the Lilywhites.
However, he also looks set to snub any approach from Spurs, with Ajax announcing on Friday that ten Hag has extended his contract till 2023:
His home? Amsterdam… ❌❌❌
+1 for Erik ten Hag ➥ 2023
