Finally some official news on a car that has been spotted testing for almost a year now. Readers get ready to erase the name XUV500 from your mind for the upcoming Mahindra 7 seater SUV. The much-awaited SUV, built on the W601 platform, will be called the XUV700 (pronounced as XUV, 7 double ‘Oh’). Oh yes, they have used a nomenclatures fans and industry has been touting for years. Good name Mahindra.

Since Mahindra has broken radio silence first, here is what the company has to say about the car first –

  • The XUV700 is an all new global SUV set get your hearts racing with its sci-fi technology, spirited performance and first-in-class features.
  • The XUV700 will also come with world class safety features, reaffirming Mahindra’s commitment towards safety. It will offer both Diesel and Gasoline engines in Manual and Automatic transmissions, along with optional All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) capabilities.
  • The XUV700, which is slated to be launched in Q2 FY2022, will be manufactured at the company’s manufacturing facility at Chakan in Maharashtra.

So what can be under stood from all these highlights. Firstly – “global SUV” this means that the car could be readied for export to new and existing markets Mahindra has a presence in. With those markets in mind, the car will get getting quite a lot of features that will come in the car as a segment first. Some such features are ADAS and AWD that no other car gets. The Mahindra 7 seater SUV will also be anointed with a lot of safety features and structural attributes to make sure that this car meets all the norms and keeps up with the Mahindra line-up that has performed well in Global-NCAP testing.

Apart from that, engine option include a diesel and petrol option. Both engine options will include a manual and a automatic gearbox. The car will also get AWD. Lastly the company has talked about the Mahindra 7 seater SUV a.k.a the XUV700 is coming in Q2 of FY2022, which means that we will see the car later this year in the coming months of June, July. The car will compete with the recently shown Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus. We think that now Mahindra will keep the current XUV500 also on sale to have both 7 seater options in the market for buyers.
