Lionel Messi closing in on Barcelona stay with 10-year deal touted

An update on the future of FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi has emerged on Friday.

Messi’s Barcelona future

Lionel Messi’s future has of course been a major talking point in the world of football for some time now.

Following Barcelona’s hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League last season, Messi attempted to depart the Camp Nou via a clause in his contract.

However, after months of back and forth, the Argentine eventually opted to stay put for 2020/21.

But, despite being set to see out the remainder of the campaign with Barca, Messi’s future beyond the summer remains uncertain.

Two of the teams most heavily linked with the veteran attacker over the last year or so have been Manchester City and PSG, with it reported earlier this week that the latter of that duo had offered the Argentine a two-year deal.

However, as mentioned above, a fresh report from the English press regarding the Argentine’s future has emerged on Friday.

And, if the report from the generally reliable The Times proves true, then it does appear as though he will once again be plying his trade at the Camp Nou for at least one more campaign.

The Times report that Messi looks set to stay at Barcelona following positive talks between the club and his father.

The Times then go on to claim that Messi is close to a 10-year deal with Barcelona.

Given he is already 33, that would of course not be 10 years more of playing football.

But as the report explains, the 10-year deal would allow him to stay in Spain in the short-term, fulfil his longer-term ambition of playing in the MLS and then see him return to Barcelona in an executive role.
