James Ward-Prowse returns to Southampton as a fitness precaution and is unavailable for England this evening

James Ward-Prowse, scored his first England goal in last week’s comfortable 5-0 win over San Marino for Gareth Southgate’s team and said it was “boyhood dream come true.”

Unfortunately, he won’t get the chance to add to his tally in tonight’s World Cup Qualifier with Poland as he has returned to Southampton as a precaution over his fitness. There is not thought to be any concerns around his availability for the Saints at the weekend.

 

Southampton are set to face Burnley on Sunday lunchtime in a game both will be hoping to win so that they can pull themselves further away from the bottom of the table. Southampton sit in 14th and Burnley in 15th but they are only separated by goal difference.

Ralph Hassenhuttl’s men  were on a terrible run of form prior to the international break and will be hoping that things get better as the Premier League returns this weekend.

Gareth Southgate spoke about managing the players at his disposal yesterday and their availability.

“They’re all available as far as we’re concerned.”

“I think we’ve managed the team not only through the matches but through the training session. We’ve been very cautious with the load that the players have had. “

“We’ve got to balance that freshness tomorrow but we were very happy with the performance the other day of course. I think around Europe most countries are taking a similar slants on the games so we’ve got to look at the best team to win this game and we are well prepared for it.” 

It seems that in the case of Ward-Prowse, the decision has been made to return him to his club so that he will be available for them over the coming weeks.
