Arsenal blow as Smith Rowe injury concern confirmed/Callum Hudson-Odoi returns to Chelsea

England U21 boss Aidy Boothroyd provided a fitness update on his squad this afternoon, with the news having proven of an altogether concerning nature for the fans of two Premier League clubs.

Portugal add to woes

The Young Lions have of course been back in action over the course of the last week.

Boothroyd and co. got their 2021 European Championship campaign underway, amid hopes of a deep tournament run.

To say that England have since struggled to live up to such expectations, though, would be putting it lightly.

The nation’s group opener last week eventually saw them succumb to a concerning 1-0 defeat at the hands of Switzerland.

And this was followed by a 2nd-straight loss on Sunday night, when strikes from Dany Mota and Francisco Trincao saw Portugal take firm early control of the Group D table.

ESR doubtful

As such, for England, the situation is now one of genuine concern.

The Young Lions’ meeting with Croatia tomorrow evening has essentially become a must-win, as the country aim to avoid another embarrassing group stage exit from the Euros.

As outlined above, however, on the eve of their most important fixture in some time, England have been dealt not one, but two blows on the personnel front.

Speaking in a press conference this evening, Aidy Boothroyd was asked for a fitness update on his squad.

And, after first confirming that Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi – who missed the weekend defeat to Portugal with a shoulder problem – has returned to west London, the Young Lions boss went on to reveal that Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe has also picked up an injury of some form:
